4-Winds Science Kicks Off

Our first Four Winds exploration was about sunlight and shadow. Thankfully the sun emerged from the fog just as we were headed outdoors to begin our investigation after enjoying a puppet show.

William’s dad and Jack’s mom helped us understand just how important the sun is for life to exist on earth. We learned 2 new “juicy” words, rotation and revolution, and acted out the motion of the Earth around the sun.

One of the highlights of the investigation was tracing our shadows at different times of the day. We had a clear picture of how they change depending on the position of the light source.

We checked out ice cubes and noticed that the ones placed in the sun melted faster than the ones in the shadows.

After doing a scavenger hunt involving signs of the sun and the seasons, we came back to our rooms to create some impressive pictures of the sun. Check them out when you come to see us on Open School Night next Thursday at 6:30.

Next week we will begin our “Sharing Days”. We have been practicing and listening to one another, remembering what other’s say, and asking clarifying questions.

Our topic for next week is “ What insects have you noticed lately?” “Where did you see them and what were they doing?”

Please practice with your child helping him/her to speak in a clear voice, make a statement, and add at least 2 details. Check the chart to the side to see what day is your child’s “share day”.

We can’t wait to get back together again on Monday to share our hike experience.

Have a great weekend.
