How wonderful to see all those smiling faces this morning! What a great way to start the day. Although it was difficult to be away from the classroom this week, I feel the conference was so valuable. I was learning about social thinking. Social thinking is what we do when we interact with people. Whether we are with friends, in a classroom, at the grocery store or sending an email, we think about those we are interacting with. And how we think affects how we behave, which in turn affects how others respond to us, which in turn affects our own emotions.
This morning we watched a short video on peanut allergies. Thank you all for speaking to you children about it this matter and your support in keeping all of our classmates safe.
Our Daily 5 is up an running. We have three components in place; read-to-self, partner read and work on writing. During this time we have several mini lessons and then the students go work independently. We have been focusing on different strategies to help us become better readers. It is important for students to have a number of reading strategies that they can use when they get to an unfamiliar word so they can puzzle through it on their own.
Have a great weekend!
